The Research Computing Division of RTI International has an immediate opening for a Drupal Developer to support the collection, processing, managing, presenting and analyzing data within mobile, web and database environments.  We are seeking a highly motivated and talented developer to contribute to the vision and creation of interactive web customer experiences and back-end data collection systems for our clients. This position requires a combination of programming skills (PHP, HTML, CSS, JS, etc.) and a fundamental understanding of content management systems. Experience with responsive and adaptive design is strongly preferred. In addition, an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development and deployment, with some back-end knowledge, is preferred. Activities may involve the use of commercial software, open source software or RTI-developed software tools. 

  • Experience in web site layout and web page design, incorporating user interface, PHP and database processing and security.
  • Work closely with developers and clients to ensure an effective, visually appealing, and intuitive implementation.
  • Produce “clean” and well-structured code, with detailed specifications.
  • Understanding of PHP syntax and application design.
  • Troubleshoot, test and maintain the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality.
  • Design and implement new features and functionality, establishing and guiding the website’s architecture.
  • Participate in defining system requirements and testing against requirements.
  • Help development teams define data architectures and data processing requirements.
  • Create responsive/adaptive design, ensuring high-performance and availability.
  • Develop to project standards within an established software development lifecycle environment.
  • Collaborate with the team in all phases of the development lifecycle.
  • Ability to manage deadlines on numerous, concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
  • Personal accountability for the technical accuracy of own work.

Required Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher and 6+ years’ work experience.
  • Experience working in IT field.
  • Experience developing web solutions in Drupal and PHP implementations in a LAMP environment.
  • Advanced site-building experience including deep familiarity with Drupal modules such as CTools, Views, and Panels.
  • Ability to architect enterprise Drupal solutions including data, display, and information architecture.
  • Experience building responsive websites using Drupal CMS, HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery
  • High proficiency in PHP and the ability to manipulate, troubleshoot, and write custom PHP software.
  • Experience with most of the following:
  • HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and JSON
  • Collaborating with visual designers to incorporate design into data heavy applications
  • System troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Experience in applying and developing free and open source software technologies.
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g. Requirements, Design, Development, Testing) and exposure to Agile or iterative SDLCs.
