The Program for Research in Survey Methodology has an opening for an early career Survey Methodologist to join our team in providing solutions to current survey research challenges.  We are looking for formally trained survey methodologists who have broad interests and skills in areas such as developing and testing questionnaires across all modes of data collection, designing and conducting cognitive interviews and focus groups, usability testing, and conducting other research to reduce measurement error.

Candidates must be able to work from our Chicago, IL, Research Triangle Park, NC, or Washington, DC offices.

Responsibilities
• Contribute to and lead research on the development and assessment of survey questionnaires, including techniques such as focus groups, cognitive interviewing, questionnaire testing, usability testing, behavior coding, and measurement error analysis.
• Contribute to and lead other methodological research, including areas such as developing procedures to improving response rates, conducting nonresponse bias analysis, and contributing to responsive design approaches.
• Contribute to design experiments to be embedded in studies, to improve instrumentation or data collection.
• Provide general methodological support to projects and proposals
• Contribute to report writing and analysis.
• Present research findings at leading survey conferences.
• Contribute to (or lead) publications in peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications
• MA/MS in Survey Methodology or an MA/MS in similar field with survey methodology training included.
• Proven track record in survey methodology research, as demonstrated by presentations at professional conferences or publications in peer-reviewed journals, preferred.
• Experience working in a contract research or consulting environment preferred.
• Spanish language skills are preferred, but not required.
• To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
