 Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • EMT or CPR Certification required
  • High school diploma or GED, plus 1 year related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to obtain security clearance
  • Basic knowledge of policies and procedures related to RTI security
  • Basic knowledge of policies and procedures concerning CBI (Confidential Business Information), DoD and other industrial security plans
  • Basic knowledge of FCC rules concerning radio transmission
  • Basic knowledge of fire safety procedures
  • Basic knowledge of local, state and federal regulations as they relate to RTI business activities
  • Basic skill in using all security, safety and medical equipment carried on RTI security vehicles, including fire extinguishers, first aid kits, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), jumper cables, portable radios, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply verbal and written guidelines, including Institute and departmental policies and procedures, RTI Emergency Plan, Safety Manual and Security Directives
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, legible and comprehensive Incident Reports
  • Ability to effectively communicate with RTI staff, clients and the general public
  • Ability to reason and make judgments quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with supervisor, co-workers and other RTI staff
  • The ideal candidate can work 1st shift (8am-4pm) on Saturdays and Sundays only.


  • RTI security vehicles and equipment related to the vehicles, e.g., cables for jump starting vehicles
  • Emergency medical equipment, including AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Guard tour system



Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
