RTI International’s staff conducts health research and provides technical services to improve health in the U.S. and around the globe. We are seeking experienced candidates to support the mission of RTI.  

RTI is seeking a Senior Research Genetic Counselor to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians in the GenOmics, Bioinformatics, and Translational Research Center. The candidate will join three experienced genetic counselors in the Center. He or she will contribute to the management of at least one high-complexity project and contribute to research related to the translation of new conditions and technologies to newborn screening. The candidate will collaborate with senior RTI investigators and university and public health collaborators to incorporate sequencing of newborns into the existing Early Check study (www.EarlyCheck.org). The role will include study planning, management, interpretation of genomic sequencing reports, telegenetic counseling, research to assess outcomes for participating families, and the development of educational and support resources. In addition, the candidate will contribute to ongoing research in rare and common disorders, proposal writing, data analysis, and data reporting. The successful candidate will have clinical or research experience using exome/genome sequencing and strong project management and communication skills. Additional desired experience includes clinical research, telehealth, project management, and educational material development. 

The position will be based in Research Triangle Park, NC. We are open for remote work for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to study planning, including scientific, administrative, and human subjects components
  • Manage and monitor study progress for a high-complexity study
  • Develop study protocols and operating procedures
  • Contribute to interpretation of sequencing data
  • Return results to participants
  • Develop educational and support resources
  • Participate in analysis and reporting
  • Contributing to proposal writing and new study planning


Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in genetic counseling
  • Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Ten years of experience
  • Experience with exome/genome sequencing, including consenting, interpretation, return of results, and cascade testing in a research or clinical environment
  • Knowledge of genomic variant classification/interpretation experience, including familiarity with ClinVar/ClinGen
  • Interest in research proposal development
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing tasks
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status. 

Preferred:
  • Experience in grant and/or contract proposal writing
  • Experience developing informed consent and/or educational materials for the public
  • Three or more years of experience in project management
