Around the globe, RTI's is working to develop and implement low emission energy technology alternatives, raise private financing for energy infrastructure, work with governments on legal and regulatory reforms to alleviate bottlenecks in energy generation and consumption, and increasing access to green energy to sustain economic growth and reduce poverty. We serve as a chosen partner for USAID’s Power Africa program in East and sub-Sahara Africa, and we are looking to expand our knowledge and practice to support the development of sound energy infrastructure, enabling energy sector reforms, and grow sustainable, secure energy markets throughout the Indo-Pacific. To build on these efforts, RTI is currently seeking professionals with senior- and mid-level expertise in energy sector in Southeast Asia.

The successful candidates should have a proven track record of leadership and ability to navigate complex political environments (preferably in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and/or Thailand) and technical experience in a few of the following areas:

• Advancing energy efficient initiatives
• Regional connectivity (power and gas)
• Market competition promotion (energy-specific)
• High-standard energy development
• Scaling up investment (energy-specific)
• New technology adoption and scale up (energy-specific)
• Private sector engagement (energy-specific)
• Diversification of energy resources
• Energy utility improvement
• Energy system procurement
• Adoption of distributed energy, electric vehicles and/or modern gas systems
• Natural gas infrastructure
• Regional energy integration
• Regional trade for electricity and gas
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in economics, energy, engineering, business management, law and/or other relevant discipline.
• Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in the power sector with a focus on public policy, sector regulation, utility turnaround and improvement, and IPPs.
• Southeast Asia experience required; experience in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and/or Cambodia preferred.
• Strong oral/written communication skills and ability to communicate at multiple levels in the organization: and ability to coordinate activities with officials from host country government, US Government, NGO’s, and other agencies.
• Ability to build effective relationships with all clients, peers, and stakeholders.
• Ability to work hands-on, independently, and within team.
• English language proficiency.

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
