RTI’s  Commercialization Group is responsible for the development and commercialization of intellectual property, technology and product assets at RTI.

 

 

RTI Commercialization works with industry partners to realize the value and impact of our technology portfolio by intentionally moving it into the marketplace. Our objective is to improve the human condition with products and services developed through RTI and Industry partnerships.

 

We utilize industry trends, market feedback, and design thinking to select and promote RTI technologies in targeted commercial sectors. The RTI Commercialization team uses a disciplined approach to support knowledge transfer during key steps in the lab-to-market transition. Our flexibility in business models and industry partnering structures ensures that technologies are brought to market quickly and efficiently for maximum impact.

 

By leveraging the intellectual property generated by our basic and applied researchers, industry partners can gain a strategic edge in the marketplace. The opportunities our technologies represent cover a wide range of applications – biomaterials, manufacturing processes, software solutions, and others – across multiple industry sectors.

 

If you have a desire to join a growing team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, one which is responsible for increasing market awareness and pursuing new business opportunities around innovative technologies in the RTI Commercialization portfolio, then our Business Analyst role might be the one for you.

 

 

Based in the Research Triangle Park and reporting Director of Commercialization, you will have the unique opportunity to develop a deep understanding of RTI technical areas, while assessing the commercial potential of complex technologies, shaping go-to-market strategies, and fostering industry collaborations to transform RTI technologies into valuable products and services.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with research teams and business development personnel across the RTI business units.
  • Conduct in-depth research, opportunity sizing, and market landscaping activities for technologies in the CxN portfolio.
  • Develop marketing and outreach strategies to convey technology value proposition to industry and investor contacts.
  • Facilitate relationships with industry contacts to inform R&D strategy.  
  • Proactively pursue new strategic partnerships through outreach campaigns and external stakeholder interactions.
  • Identify and attend events and conferences that benefit CxN through exposure, networking, knowledge building, or future sources of revenue. 
  • Support CxN leadership with the negotiation, drafting and execution of industry partnering agreements (e.g., licenses, sales, vendor agreements, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in a technical or business field with 3 years of technical industry experience in business development, sales, product development, project management or a comparable field, or
  • Master’s level degree in a technical or business field with 1 years of technical industry experience in business development, sales, product development, project management or a comparable field.
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholder groups to foster mutually beneficial relationships and collaborations.
  • Ability to quickly learn about new topics and identify key success factors for specific use cases – technologies, subject matter areas, business models, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex topics to various stakeholders at different levels of leadership and technical expertise.
  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks concurrently and work collaboratively within a matrix-oriented environment.

Preferred:

  • Advanced technical or business degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience preferred in at least one of the following fields:
    • HealthIT
    • Energy
    • Drug discovery
    • Edutech
