The Center for Courts and Corrections Research in the Division for Applied Justice Research at RTI International is searching for a Criminal Justice Researcher to assist with research and evaluation projects related to the courts and corrections systems. The Center is specifically interested in candidates with specialized knowledge and practical experience in the areas of courts and corrections policy and practice, social science research methods, quantitative/qualitative analytic skills, and strong communications skills (i.e., written and verbal). Additional areas of specialization may include practical awareness of prosecutorial practices, knowledge of risk assessment development techniques, the ability to collect and analyze administrative data, and methods for translating research to practitioners. 

 
Responsibilities to include, but not be limited to:
  • Assist with Center strategic planning and business development of research related to courts and corrections portfolios with heavy emphasis on Division-wide integration.
  • Identify practice areas for strategic growth and build work in these areas
  • Collaborate on winning grant and contract proposals
  • Research highly complex issues and review published and web-based information sources
  • Contribute to designing research studies and writing reports
  • Write technical reports for government and other clients
  • Contribute to articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Present research results to government officials and other professional and lay audiences

Project Administrative responsibilities to include, but not be limited to:

  • Fulfill all work-related obligations
  • Contribute to projects progress by assisting with deliverables within timelines and budgets
  • Document time spent on multiple activities
  • Attend and participate in project/study and unit meetings
  • Maintain and develop expert knowledge of research, policy, and practitioner issues related to area(s) of specialization

Minimum Qualifications:
  • M.A/M.S. (criminology, economics, psychology, public health, public policy, sociology, statistics, or a related field is required) and some related experience
  • Ability to assist with research projects
  • Demonstrated experience assisting with research studies
  • Ability to assist with multiple tasks simultaneously and work independently for extended periods of time
  • Proficiency with quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work successfully in multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a criminal justice agency
