RTI International has an exciting opportunity for a Director level finance professional.  This position will act as the financial leader for two research business lines; the Social Policy, Health and Economic Research (SPHERE) unit and the Environmental Health Services (EHS) research unit within the Social, Statistical, Environmental Sciences Group (SSES) at RTI International and will be located in Research Triangle Park, NC. This role will be the finance business partner to the SPHERE senior vice president and act as a key advisor in all business financial decisions.  The right partner will provide analytic leadership for the Unit.  Major responsibilities include leading financial staff, driving financial strategy, managing all financial processes with an emphasis on excellent analytics, continuous improvement, efficiency and effectiveness, and a commitment to staff development.  This position is expected to efficiently use staff and other resources to anticipate the needs of the client and internal leadership to drive positive customer satisfaction. 

Responsibilities:
Working closely with the SPHERE and EHS technical leadership to develop a strong understanding of the needs and opportunities facing the business internally and externally.  Working proactively with RTI Internal and external stakeholders to provide creative and financially sound solutions. Strategy thought leadership for the business and the finance team is a must. Some key job responsibilities are outlined below:
• Provide operational direction and oversight of the SPHERE/EHS finance function, acting as the primary financial contact for other groups within RTI, as well as for members of the SPHERE/EHS teams.  Key financial functions include:  financial support of strategic initiatives, Unit/Division budgeting and forecasting of direct and indirect costs and rates, Strategic Investment Fund request analysis, project financial analysis, and Independent Research & Development, Professional Development Award support, and client billing
• Conduct financial analysis when needed, for unit level budgets/forecasts, ad hoc analysis to support strategic initiatives or investments, in order to guide unit strategic decision making.  This position acts as an expert for the unit in complex analysis
• Identify unit operational, financial, and compliance risks/opportunities and provide leadership in the appropriate resolution in conjunction with Unit research staff and other RTI resources as needed
• Lead the development of the SPHERE/EHS financial function, ensuring sufficient resources and needed skill sets are present to meet the needs of the Unit (approximately 20-25 staff)
• Responsible for identifying and implementing improvements to the work processes of the group which he/she is managing
• Has both strategic and operational accountability for the direction and performance of the groups whom are being managed
• Leads the financial planning process for SPHERE/EHS, including the annual budget process, forecasting, and monthly financial reporting. 
• Champions the SPHERE/EHS growth strategy (in alignment with the SSES strategy) and provides financial leadership and support of significant investment opportunities, including M&A activity (including target selection, due diligence and integration) and other critical business initiatives that arise. Guides the group, through analysis and introduction of best practices, to understand and improve critical performance measures and operating efficiency
• Manage staff through the dynamic development process.  Ensures staff development and career progression, including managing managers
• Responsible for developing and implementing practices to ensure a high level of staff morale and retention
• Operate and oversee the promotion and succession processes
• Oversee the maintenance and adherence to standard operating procedures
• Ensure the professional credibility of the SPHERE/EHS finance function
Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Finance or related field with 14 years of experience or a CPA with 20 years.  
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
• Must have experience leading teams greater than 10-15 people
• Experience being a finance business partner leading annual financial and business planning for a business with >$100M in revenue
• Experience in Financial Planning & Analysis; strength in data visualization
• M&A experience (due diligence)
• System implementation from finance perspective
• Financial and Business communication with senior leadership and/or board level
• Strong financial modeling
• ERP or other systems implementation experience is strongly desired.
