Internship Description

RTI International has a Global Health Security Internship opening for Summer 2019 within the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Division in the Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences unit (SSES). This internship will provide the successful prospect a mentored learning experience, and the opportunity to expand his/her classroom knowledge and skills within a professional setting.

RTI's Biostatistics and Epidemiology Division (BiostatEpi) applies statistical and epidemiological research, surveillance, and evaluation methods to improve health in the U.S. and around the globe. The selected intern will assist with research and activities related to emerging infectious diseases in a global health security context.

Responsibilities and activities could include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct desk research and literature reviews on global health security
  • Support manuscript writing for global health security peer-reviewed papers
  • Support research and writing for book on methods in field epidemiology.
  • Collect and analyze epidemiological data

Additional Information

This unpaid internship for academic credit, located in Research Triangle Park, will begin in June 2019 and run through August 2019. This opportunity requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled graduate student, who is studying or has studied one of the following fields: Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics
  • Must be eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill an academic program requirement with this internship.
  • Demonstrated experience in
    • Scientific publication writing
    • Understanding of epidemiology methods
    • Statistical programming skills are preferred for Stata, SAS, or R
