Internship Description

RTI International is one of the world's leading research institutes, dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. Our staff provides research and technical expertise to governments and businesses in more than 75 countries in the areas of health and pharmaceuticals, education and training, surveys and statistics, advanced technology, international development, economic and social policy, energy and the environment, and laboratory and chemistry services.

The selected intern will work closely with project coordinators and project assistants to provide operational assistance for his/her assigned programs. S/he liaises with the Project Coordinators and Project Associates team to support
timely and high-quality work on administrative tasks conducted for programs under implementation. S/he adds value by learning and implementing routine administrative tasks which adhere to RTI and USAID protocols. Additionally,
s/he works to understand the overall processes and best-practices of project management for international development projects. This position can be based at RTI's office in Research Triangle Park, NC, or downtown Washington, D.C.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist project coordinators in reviewing monthly project financial transactions and invoices; responsibilities will
include processing journal entries, updating monthly project financial reports, and providing ad hoc financial analysis
• Facilitate recruitment, fielding, and support of consultants
• Generate requests, modifications and extensions for consulting agreements, as needed
• Collect and process consultant assignment reports, expense reports and invoices for payment
• Help maintain and input data for tracking project activities
• Process routine project tasks and documents related to travel, sub-partners/subcontractors, vendors, etc. using
approved templates
• Organize and maintain project filing systems
• Assist with various tasks as required.

Students must be enrolled in an accredited academic institution. This is an unpaid internship and requires the student to receive course credit or fulfill program requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student, pursuing a degree in international relations, peace and security, political science, public policy, or related concentration. Must be eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill an academic requirement with this unpaid internship.
• Research and reporting experience, excellent writing and organizational skills
• Proficient administrative support skills and abilities
• Work experience in administrative and/or project management roles preferred
• Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
• Ability to work from RTI's campus based in Research Triangle Park or Washington DC office for hours required for course credit

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and/or interest in governance, workforce development, youth development, or economic growth
technical areas
• Ability to work collaboratively with people with a variety of backgrounds and skill sets
• Demonstrated writing skills
• Knowledge and proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel
• Culturally sensitive and respectful
• Ability to work independently and willingness to work in a team environment
• Flexibility and desire to work on varying projects
• Experience studying, working, or traveling in developing countries is preferred
• Fluency in English is required, and comprehension of an additional language, such as Spanish, French, and/or Arabic, is highly desired
