Internship Description

RTI International has an internship position opening for Fall 2019 within the Social Policy, Health, and Economics Research Unit/Public Health Research Division. This internship will provide the successful prospect a mentored learning experience, and the opportunity to expand his/her classroom knowledge and skills within a professional setting. The internship is based within the RTI-University of North Carolina Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC), which supports public health and health care evidence synthesis for a variety of public and private clients. The RTI-UNC was recently named as an affiliate of the Cochrane U.S. network.

The selected intern will focus on the further development and refinement of an evidence synthesis methods library in collaboration with RTI-UNC investigators. This internship also offers the potential opportunity to collaborate with a Cochrane-affiliated health sciences librarian.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Refining a sensitive and specific literature search strategy that can be implemented on an ongoing basis by EPC investigators to identify methods articles of relevance to the evidence synthesis community.
  • Pilot testing various automated or semi-automated approaches to screening results of the literature search described in the first bullet.
  • Curate a list of the most commonly cited methods articles, and develop a process for investigators to efficiently incorporate citations into evidence reports and proposals.
  • Updating and organizing an existing methods library within EndNote
Additional Information

This is an unpaid internship for academic credit located in RTI’s Research Triangle Park Office. The duration of the internship is flexible but requires a total commitment of at least 160 hours.. Hours and days can be flexible during business hours (9.00am-5.00pm, Monday through Friday).
Qualifications

• BS/BA or MS/MA candidates who are currently enrolled in a program who are highly qualified based on prior experience and relevant academic coursework
• Currently enrolled in a library or information sciences or related program
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Proficient with EndNote citation management software
• Proficient with searching electronic health databases (e.g. PubMed)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
• Eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill an academic or program requirement.
