RTI International is looking for a plumber/pipefitter to assist with determining defects in, repairs, and maintains heating, water, and drainage systems in industrial or commercial establishments. You will also assist with determining defects in, repairs, and maintains heating, water, and drainage systems in industrial or commercial establishments. Part of this role will be to perform simple repairs or replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters and hot water tanks.

  • Assist with mending or replacing burst or leaky pipes.
  • Perform standard tests on joints and pipe systems for leaks.
  • Open clogged drains.
  • Measure, cut, thread, bend, ream, and assist with installing pipe and pipe fittings. 
  • Identify materials as needed for project completion
  • Install, maintain, and repair many different types of pipe systems and dispose of waste.
  • Follow QA (Quality Assurance) to include GDP (Good Documentation Practices) and SOPs and all safety procedures.
  • Display positive leadership skills while displaying teamwork and provide mentoring to team members on new systems.
  • Uses work ticket system daily documenting all work hours and actions performed
  • Effectively communicates with building coordinator.
  • Supervise RTI outside vendors in plumbing instillations according to Code
  • Troubleshoot and analyze plumbing issues as requested.
  • Understand the concept of a team and be willing to assist outside of the plumbing field.
  • Willing to work extended or long business hours at short notice.
  • Collaborate with research staff assisting in providing plumbing knowledge when called upon.                                                  
  • Maintain RTI facilities equipment to a higher standard of reliability to ensure proper operation.
  • Adhere to safe work practices when lifting, climbing ladders.
  • Operate service vehicles to deliver parts/supplies. Practice safe driving habits and adhere to traffic regulations.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment/tools/supplies; identify and properly use hand and power tools.
  • Understand and assist in damage control repair to restore plumbing due to ice, wind or storm.
  • Ability to be on a revolving on call rotation 
  • Inspect high-pressure, air, steam, water, and gas systems to ascertain basic malfunctions.
  • Perform simple repairs or replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters and hot water tanks.
  • Represents increasing levels of responsibility in different size work groups operating with different levels of autonomy and therefore experience required.

Minimum requirements:

  •  High School Diploma and 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts.

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
