Senior Manager, Facilities Projects and Engineering

The Senior Manager of Projects & Engineering is a key leadership position within the RTI Facilities organization. Responsibilities include capital planning, building condition assessments, project development & delivery, design standards, document control, utilities management, and sustainability. This person works with key stakeholders to develop and review long range plans that address functionality, operational requirements, and strategic objectives across RTI’s research community.

This role requires experience with and knowledge of building design & codes, capital planning, project management, general construction practices, environmental sustainability, and staff development. Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.

  • Ensure capital projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with stakeholder expectations.
  • Oversee facilities capital plan, depreciation cost curve, and building condition assessments.
  • Communicate with executives & other stakeholders on capital plan, high-profile projects, and key initiatives.
  • Maintain campus master plan.
  • Monitor and track stakeholder feedback.
  • Maintain MSAs with design and project support partners.
  • Maintain project and resource loading plans.
  • Ensure appropriate review of building modification requests.
  • Oversee lab ventilation management program.
  • Lead monthly Lab Coordination meetings.
  • Maintain professional development plans for direct reports.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce utilities consumption.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance & Operations to expand energy program.
  • Stay current with emerging facilities technologies and best practices.
  • Responsible for Projects & Engineering budget and forecast.
  • Responsible for utilities management.
  • Oversee underground utility mapping.
  • Lead sustainability program.
  • Oversee investigation into complex technical infrastructure issues.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance & Operations to strengthen facilities design control process and standards, to include MEP, paving, roof systems, etc.
  • Oversee facilities document control, including as-builts, O&M manuals, etc.
  • Collaborate with Business Operations and Business Unit stakeholders to maintain strong linkage between space management, workplace strategies, and capital planning.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering strongly preferred; MBA is a plus.

  • 16 years of experience in facilities project management and/or facilities engineering.

  • 5 years of leadership experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of office and lab building MEP systems.

  • Proven track record of identifying and delivering energy savings.

  • Preferred credentials include: Licensed PE, PMP, LEED, PEM.

  • Able to handle the stress associated with meeting frequent, multiple, and tight deadlines.
  • Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require.
  • Able to handle change rapidly and effectively
