Medical Writing, Editing, and Design Services (MEDS), is seeking a new Medical Editor to join our UK-based group of editors and graphic designers but also will work closely with MEDS colleagues in the US.  

The MEDS group prioritizes quality and efficiency through training and team member support. Our proposal editors each work with assigned research groups and will engage with researchers across the organization through workload sharing. The Health Solutions proposal editing environment is fast-paced and requires good judgment, diplomacy, willingness to ask the team for help, and a drive for content consistency.

This position will be located in the RTI-HS Manchester, UK, office.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Edits RTI-HS proposals for grammar, spelling, style, and consistency, according to the appropriate style guide and company standards

  • Formats proposals according to RTI-HS or client-provided Word templates

  • Closely follows and engages with proposal production scheduling

  • Coordinates with and assists others when needed
  • Creates Adobe PDF files
  • Oversees occasional graphics production for proposals

  • Bachelor's level degree in Liberal Arts, English, Communications, or Journalism.
  • Knowledge of general grammar and punctuation rules
  • Knowledge of style guides, particularly BMJ house style or the AMA Manual of Style
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective team-minded working relationships with a US-based supervisor and onsite and remote members of the Medical Writing, Editing, and Design Services team.
  • Ability to support a diverse group of internal customers and adapt working style to accommodate a variety of personalities and needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide diplomatic and constructive comments to writers

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above.  Examples include:  remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
